Justin Bieber discussed his new documentary, Next Chapter. This is the star’s second fan update since the release of “Lonely”, a single inspired by his own mental health issues. The inspiration behind “Lonely” was meant to encourage people to open up about their mental health.
In his darkest times he had fears that his suffering would never end, which led to thoughts of suicide. “[Sometimes] I was [really, really] suicidal. Like, ‘Man, is this pain ever going to go away?’” he said, “It was so consistent, the pain was so consistent. I was just suffering, so, I’m just like, ‘Man, I would rather not feel this than feel this.”
Comin Out the Other Side
Bieber says that while he contemplated suicide before his relationship with wife Hailey, he has since found coping skills that have helped him emerge from the darkness. And he now wants to be a role model, a light to others. He commented, “I want to be the [type of] person and leader who can tell people, ‘You don’t have to put on a front. You don’t have to act a certain way. Who you are is enough.’”
The star mused that like himself many suffer in silence, pretending to be OK and someone they’re not.
His Healing Journey
The revealing documentary talks about his healing journey. The star stated, “I feel… at peace for the first time in my life… I just would encourage people… ‘Hey, if you’re feeling lonely, talk about it. Say it out loud!’ There’s a freedom in that. I could have avoided a lot of pain.”
He explains he was fighting with his psychological well-being in March 2019 when he found a treatment in prayer and meditation. Together they helped him overcome the days when he contemplated ending his life. Beiber says, “What’s helped me is that I work out a lot. Stay physical and stay active. I pray and meditate, things like that. I write music, listen to music. Music is [very] powerful; it can really help you when you’re feeling low.”
Pandemic Has Given Justin & Hailey Downtime
The Next Chapter is part of the docuseries, Justin Bieber: Seasons. The series is an inside look at the last eight months of Bieber’s life, a time he refers to as a “pleased season.” It has been a lot of downtime with Hailey – time away from their busy careers.
During this unprecedented uncertainty, the singer hopes The Next Chapter connects with fans.
