Summer is the best time to indulge in all kinds of fruit. If you’re lucky enough to have a garden in your backyard, you know how delicious fruit-off-the-vine is compared to the grocery store variety. This summer, try your hand at perfecting these fruity desserts.

Grilled Angel Food Cake with Strawberries

Have you ever taken a donut or pop tart and warmed it up in the microwave before eating it? Wasn’t the warm center delicious? You can do the same with Angel Food Cake by throwing it on the grill until the outside is golden brown and crispy. Throw some chopped strawberries on top and you’ll have yourself a perfect summer dessert.

Blueberry Yogurt Ice Pops

Most store-bought ice pops are full of sugar and who-knows-what preservatives. You can make your own pops by puréeing blueberries with your choice of yogurt. We like using plain Greek yogurt with a touch of honey. Pour the blend into popsicle molds, wait a few hours, and you’ll have perfectly tasty blueberry yogurt ice pops.

Coconut Milk Strawberry-Banana Pops

If you can’t eat yogurt, coconut milk is an excellent vegan alternative. Making these pops is just as easy as making the blueberry kind. Simply purée coconut milk with strawberries and bananas. Pour the mixture into popsicle molds and in a few hours, you’ll have ready-to-eat strawberry banana pops.

Strawberry Lemon Trifle

A trifle is a layered dessert that you can easily make at home. All you need is angel food cake, lemon custard, and fresh berries. Start with the angel food cake at the bottom, add the other ingredients in layers and top off the trifle with some toasted crumbs for a textured finish. Use a glass container to show off the layers.

Watermelon Basil Slushy

You probably have some leftovers after slicing open that giant summer watermelon. Cut up the remaining pieces and freeze them. Then, take the frozen watermelon and fresh basil leaves and purée them into a slushy! This is yet another great dessert for vegetarians and vegans or those with dairy intolerance. All you need is a blender and some pretty bowls for serving.
